Coming soon: Unit 'A'

SEMA will soon take possession of a 'retired' Sandwich Police Department squad car. This car will replace Car 5, which was decommissioned and auctioned off in August of 2006. The addition of Unit A will allow greater flexibility in our response. It will be outfitted much the same as Car 5 was, but with updated radio and warning equipment. It will be marked with graphics that will readily identify the vehicle as different from a Sandwich Police car. A radio equipped with designated interoperability frequencies will also be installed in Unit A. This radio was supplied as a grant by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

We hope to have Unit A operable before Fair Week 2007.

Unit 454

Unit 454, Mobile Operations Center, 1988 Ford/Horton Ambulance Conversion. The unit carries a small generator, light rescue equipment, and support supplies in case of extended operations. It also carries a compact version of the Railroad Street EOC. The cords allow the batteries to be trickle charged and AC power for the rear equipment for testing and maintenance purposes.

Operating point in rear of MOC. There are three radios, one UHF and two VHF, programmed for most area frequencies. There is also a cellular phone and a Davis weather station.

Console with radios, light and siren controls for use while underway. The 'Unit 454' designation comes from the identifier for the vehicle as it appears on the Sandwich FPD box cards.
