Sandwich, Illinois, has officially designated May 2026 the start of city and community wide commemoration events to recognize the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
The proclamation designates May through November 2026 as months holding America250 events of recognition for the America 250 commemoration. Local events during this period will include: trivia, patriotic events, events of historical significance, events with community partners, for love of country throughout the city.
Sandwich, IL, is proud to be part of the Illinois America250 campaign, joining municipalities across the state in lifting up local history, people and traditions as part of this once-in-a generation celebration.
Illinois America250 Commission to Launch Passport
On February 11, the Illinois America250 Commission officially launched the Passport to Illinois at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. The limited-edition keepsake tourism passport encourages residents and visitors to explore Illinois history and the state’s role in the founding and formation of the United States. The passport highlights sites across Illinois that uplift under told stories and recognize the diverse individuals and communities who have helped shape our state and nation.
