The City of Sandwich currently has multiple exciting projects that are underway to meet residents needs and enhance economic value to the City. These projects help support various needs and services of residents in Sandwich and and surrounding communities. This growth makes Sandwich a great place to live and allows critical services and revenues to the City!
Dollar Tree
The new Dollar Tree will be located at 3725 Drew Ave. Construction to begin in June 2025.
Solar Farm
A 24-acre Solar Farm is being built at Route 34 & Sandy Bluff Road. This is a $4 million investment in the City of Sandwich. The solar panels will harness the sun's energy and convert it into electricity that is sent to the electrical grid for distribution and consumption.
Northwestern Medicine Valley West Remodel
The hospital is improving their facilities in four phases this year at a cost of $6 million. They include: new x-ray and bone scan equipment, a new phlebotomy lab, and additional office space for doctors to see patients. Over the past 3 years the hospital had added $6 million in improvements.
Fairwinds Subdivision Phase 4 Development
This development was approved 20 years ago and is finally coming to completion. Phase 4 represents the final planned build-out of the Fairwinds subdivision and will include 58 improved lots. The developer has partnered with Ryan Homes to create single family homes.
ComEd Partnership to Upgrade Municipal Facilities
The City is enrolled in the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program for Municipal Facilities. Currently, ComEd has upgraded the lighting at the following municipal locations:
- City Hall & Annex Building
- Waste Water Treatment Plant
- Police Department
These upgrades were at no cost to the City and will result in reduced electrical consumption and costs for the City. We will be adding more projects in the program during the year.
Fays BBQ Sandwich Expansion
The Fay Family is expanding their famous BBQ business with a second location in Sandwich at 132 Indian Springs Dr (in front of In Towne Self Storage.) They will be providing their drive-up menu as well as catering services.
